SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY.

The very important 4 'Cs" include:    Confidence.     Concentration.      Consistency.     Control.
So that athletes may accomplish such skills to assist them in improving the quality and consistency of their performance, they should complete exercises in practice and training and integrate, where possible, into their prematch practice and performance.  Only about six minutes is spent in actual bowls delivery during the course of a game.  A game will last approximately 3 hours and it is impossible to maintain complete concentration during this whole period.  The period between deliveries can be used to perform these exercises.

TURNING NEGATIVES INTO POSITIONS
Self Defeating Thought:
I can't believe it is so windy and cold.  I have to play in this weather.
Change to Self Enhancing Thought:
No one likes this type of weather but I can play as well in it as anyone else.

Self Defeating Thought:
What a stupid mistake.  You idiot!
Change to Self Enhancing Thought:
Ease off.  Everyone makes mistakes.  Put it behind you and focus on what you want to do.

Self Defeating Thought:
Things are slipping away.  I'm six shots behind.
Change to Self Enhancing Thought:
Stop worrying about the score; just concentrate on the next bowl.

Self Defeating Thought:
Who care how well I do anyway?
Change to Self Enhancing Thought:
I care, and I'll be happier if I push myself.

Self Defeating Thought:
I don't like this green.
Change to Self Enhancing Thought:
Everyone has to play here.  I can play on this surface just as well as anyone else.

Self Defeating Thought:
I don't think I can play this shot.
Change to Self Enhancing Thought:
This is a tough shot but I can do it.
